Our Story

About ALMA Green Tech

ALMA Green Tech was created as a spin – off  from activities conducted by JV ALMACIS in Kenya. It was formed in February 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya to address the rapidly changing agricultural landscape in the world. Employment of new technologies has left the average small – scale farmer at a disadvantage with most of them having limited / no access to emerging technologies.

ALMA Green Tech is managing the collection of data collected during all the activities done bythe mother company which engaged marginal and small – scale farmers in rural areas of kenya.

Additional data is being obtained through partnership with agricultural research institutes in Kenya. The data is used I the training of ML/ AL models for the development of our “Kilimo Mkononi application.

AI Application in Agriculture

In order to further assist farmers, ALMA Green Tech is in the process of developing interface where farmers can access real – time crop and farm information on their phones from the database already established. Through an application known as ‘Kilimo Mkononi’ (a Swahili word literally meaning ‘farming on your fingertips’), farmers will enjoy two services, access to information on the platform or through a chat bot via SMS. The data will soon be available on the ‘Kilimo Mkononi’ application. 

The platform also offers the following features:

  • An AI chat bot responding to farmers via SMS for farmers who are not tech savvy.
  • Filtered responses for farmers based on AI / ML principles to narrow down the response
 
Expected Benefits to Farmers
•Crop recommendation based on geographical location using Machine Learning (Random Forest)
management of farming activities.
•Crop planning and rotation management for farmers in order to maintain soil health as well as improve the
yield.
•Record input usage and crop history to maintain a detailed crop history for compliance and better resource
management.
•Disease prediction using (Convolutional Neural Network) CNN models through training of images of
diseased and healthy plants for identification.
 
•Pest and disease management using several databases from ALMA Green Tech and KALRO for proper crop
management.
•By integrating weather forecasting in the system, farmers can make informed decisions regarding planting,
irrigation, and pest management.
•In order to minimize water wastage, farmers can also get information regarding irrigation and water
scheduling. The information will be obtained from IoT sensors installed to monitor humidity levels in the soil.
